Sorry WIlliam, red haze was well and truly down at the time and I
missed that line about syslogs. Ended up using the alternative
installer. Hate to say it but that one is way better.

Its not trying to do too many things at once, ie its just an installer.

It has all the file systems working, ie how did the new installer ever
get through any kind of proper QA without reiserfs???????

It is alot more robust, although it did hang once, in comparison the
new installer - for me at least - failed to install properly even once
with 15 attempts. It hangs and crashes in all sorts of different
places and is generally behaving like alphaware.

Apologies to unload on you mate, but this is no way to win over new
converts to the (k)ubuntu universe. I needed this up and running in a
hurry, and I'm there now, so again apologies, but I darent run that
installer on this machine now. Too much work related stuff on here and
a hell of a dead line to meet.
