serial mice are not detectable, so not supposed to work out of the box,
if you use a serial mouse on a thin client, please use the
X_MOUSE_PROTOCOL and X_MOUSE_DEVICE variables in your lts.conf
if you use it on a normal installation, the way you changed your
xorg.conf is the right solution
