Public bug reported: http://wiki.debian.org/EtcMailName seems to indicate that /etc/mailname should be the hostname to use on outgoing news and mail messages. Running dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config (after manually editting the /etc/mailname to be a FQDN), the "System mail name" was still "localhost.localdomain".
OK, no biggie, I typed the contents of /etc/mailname into the System mail name, and left "Other destinations for which mail is accepted" as empty. With this configuration, though, exim4 didn't realize that it was the mailserver for /etc/mailname. Only after I changed the "Other destinations for which mail is accepted" to ALSO include the /etc/mailname contents did exim4 believe it was the mailserver for my FQDN. ** Affects: exim4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- exim4-config ignores /etc/mailname https://launchpad.net/bugs/49776 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
