Here's my experience: I suspend and the resume, and a video playing in Kaffeine has no sound. I then did something (I forget what) that caused a Gnome system event sound to fire, and I heard both the system beep and the video's sound.
My suspicion is that the Gnome system event caused some sound daemon to restart, or something like that. My system: Dapper, up to date with patches as of the evening of 12 June 2006. HP Pavilion dv4150 (a variant of the dv4000). Sound card is Intel ICH6; chip is Analog Devices AD1981B.
