João, eu uso notebook e tem o ubuntu e compiz funcionando nele sobre uma placa 945gma talvez pelo que eu sei o driver jah vem instalado, vc apenas tem que configuarar a resoluçao pra isto vc pode usar o programa 915resolution pra ta configurando a resoluçao, mas se sua placa naum foi realmente detectada procura nos cache do apt por intel ou i915(nome do driver): Tipo assim: $apt-cache search intel i915
