Na tela de login, você tem outras opções além de digitar o nome de usuário e a senha. Não lembro o nome delas agora, mas entre elas existe desligar, reiniciar, etc. Há lá a opção de escolher o tipo de sessão. O mais certo é que você encontre o KDE4 entre as opções de tipo de sessão.
