I have to clear my position here, I'm NOT supporting Piracy. I'm NOT saying Piracy helps software industry to flourish. * *I was saying* it did help us to start in the past,* when we do not have any hi-speed internet and other facilities.
OSS is flurishing now, but few years ago it was not. At that time you could not have imagine using Linux for software development, as most of the consumer would be Windows users. Remember Our IT industry is not only the Local market, but outside world. When you are in proffesional software industry, it ends at your customer's requirement. your choice, opinion doesn't matter to them. what happens when they wants you to develop an application using C# or VB.Net you will end up buying a costly Development suit (there is one free alternative though), but wait! what happens if there is no one Selling original Microsoft Software? Its only an example, but it was once a common situation in our country. Maybe In this internet age we can buy a valid license easily, but 4-5 years ago it was not this easy. আর প্রোফেশনাল যে উদাহরন দিচ্ছেন সেসব কোম্পানি এমনিতেই অনেক খরচ করে, বৈধ কপি > কিনতে তাদের কষ্ট হবার কথা নয়। আর ছাত্ররা/সাধারন ব্যবহারকারীরা যে কোন সময়ই > বিকল্প সফটওয়্যার ব্যবহার করতে পারেন। আমার সোজা কথা ভাত না পাইলে রুটি খাও, > চাল না কিনতে পারলে আটা কিনো, (যদিও আটার দাম বাড়ছে :( )। Yes They can, Today when they are well established in the market Not then when they were smaller. অনেকেই বলবেন ফ্রিওয়্যার প্রোগ্রাম বানিজ্যিক প্রোগ্রামগুলোর সমপর্যায়ে সার্ভিস > দিতে সক্ষম নয়, প্রফেশনালী এগুলো ব্যবহার করা সম্ভব নয়। ভাই কয়জন প্রফেশনাল > কাজে ব্যবহার করবেন? ফটোশপ, ইলাস্ট্রেটরের যে উদাহরন দিচ্ছেন কয়জন এগুলোর সুষ্ঠ > ব্যবহার করতে পারেন? যারা ফটোশপ ব্যবহার করা শিখেছেন তারা গিম্প বা গিম্পশপও > ব্যবহার করতে পারেন প্রফেশনাল কাজের জন্য। I was not talking about normal users but Professional graphics design firms and there is no free-ware alternative that offers like what Photoshop, Illustrator have to offer. GIMP is good for personal usage, but is no way ready for professional printing media, As far I remember It didn't even have CMYK support which is essential for printing. Its Layer working model is poor. Its interface is unproductive and ugly. Lets just say Its just not ready. Only proper oss alternative to Illustrator is Inkscape, and I have to say its a decent alternative... I use it to create my website mockups. but If I think of designing any kind of contents for print media Its not even closer to Illustrator's power.
