You'll need to give us more information about the failure.  When you get the
error message make a note of it, then click on the "details" and give us the
extra information the box.  It could be any of several problems including a
problem with the lock file, the repository information on your computer, a
third party repository that no longer exists, or it's trying to update
something that was previously updated outside of the normal update path.

If it's a repository or lock file problem them it's quite likely that you would
not be able to safely uninstall the updater or reload it again.

Do google searches about the specific error messages and you will usually get
several suggestions for repairing the system.
