I will try to remember this. Apologies in advance if I accidentally reply to you and the list. I will try to remember which specific user on which specific list I shouldn't "reply to all" for. I have been using mailing lists for over a decade and old habits die hard. With gmail's filtering it might be easier if you set up a rule to put all list messages into a folder and check it once a day. Then it is like digest mode, but with individual messages. As a bonus if you aren't interested in a particular thread you can quickly delete all messages in 1 go, rather than scrolling down through a single long digest message.
