ELLIS Workshop: Human-Centric Machine Learning May 10, 2021 Virtual event (starting at 3pm UK Time) https://sites.google.com/view/hcml2021 We are excited to invite you to the 2nd ELLIS Workshop on Human-Centric Machine Learning<https://sites.google.com/view/hcml2021>! The workshop will take place virtually on May 10th from 3pm to 9pm British Summer Time (7am to 1pm Pacific Time). Registration is free. Machine learning systems are increasingly employed to inform and automate consequential decisions for humans; however, they usually end up exacerbating discrimination, reducing protection with regards to recourse, and diminishing or violating people's privacy. These concerns have led to a surge of interest in the development of a field that we refer to as Human-Centric Machine Learning. This field seeks to minimize the potential harms, risks, and burdens of machine learning systems on the public, and at the same time, maximize their societal benefits. This workshop will bring together experts from diverse backgrounds who will focus on two main themes: (i) the differential treatment by algorithms of historically under-served and disadvantaged communities and (ii) the development of machine learning systems to assist humans for better performance, rather than replace them. Additionally, the workshop will feature a brief presentation and panel discussion on the newly proposed EU Regulation on AI. Registered participants will receive a Zoom link and will be able to pose questions to the speakers. The workshop will also be live streamed on YouTube.
