Junior Professorship - Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmics
The Faculty of Mathematics / Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint within the framework of the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track-Program for Young Academics the Position of Junior Professorship (Salary Scale W1 NBesO) with Tenure Track (leading to Salary Scale W2 NBesO) “Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmics” (m/f/d) at the Department of Informatics as soon as possible. We are seeking an internationally renowned scientist with a research area that complements the research conducted at the Department of Informatics. The successful candidate shall represent the area of Algorithmics and Theoretical Computer Science in sufficient scientific depth and breadth in research and education, with a research focus in innovative subfields of Foundations of Algorithmics and/or Artificial Intelligence. Possible research fields include: Algorithms for Sustainability Development of AI-based Systems Logics and Formal Methods We expect the successful candidate to have an excellent didactic and scientific track record acquired from an innovative position in academia or industry. The successful candidate shall actively engage in the further development of the research profile of Clausthal University of Technology and in the advancement of the degree programs in Computer Science, Business Informatics, and Digital Technologies, as well as of additional courses in service to other disciplines. Active participation is expected in the Simulation Science Center Clausthal-Göttingen (SWZ) and in the Center for Digital Technologies (DIGIT), a joint research and education hub of TU Clausthal and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. The successful candidate is expected to participate in coordinated interdisciplinary research programs. She or he shall, in particular, promote the cooperation of computer science with the engineering disciplines, especially mechanical engineering, information engineering and electrical engineering, as well as mathematics. The requirements of the position are defined in Section 30 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG). Junior professors are appointed to a fixed term of three years (in line with § 30 Abs. 4 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act, NHG). In case of a positive evaluation of this term, the appointment can be extended by up to three additional years. After at most five years overall, the tenure-track evaluation process as outlined in the “Tenure Track Ordnung der TU Clausthal” (Ordnung zur Gewährung einer Professur auf Lebenszeit im Tenure Track-Verfahren) can be initiated. In case of a positive outcome and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the junior professorship will be converted to a permanent professorship (Salary Scale W2). Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects is expected. The willingness to hold courses in German and English is a prerequisite, as is strong commitment to teaching.
