Postdoctoral Position Available in Machine Learning at the Courant Institute
Can we use machine learning on longitudinal patient records to predict whether someone will have type 2 diabetes? Can we discover what are the causes of diabetes, and can we use the insights obtained from machine learning to suggest new interventions to prevent diabetes onset altogether? We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the Computer Science department at New York University, part of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The postdoc will be expected to lead the research described above, part of a collaboration between Professors David Sontag and Yann LeCun from Computer Science, clinicians at the NYU medical school, and a major health insurance company. A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related areas (e.g., Statistics or Medical Informatics), a strong publication record at top machine learning conferences (NIPS, UAI, ICML, and AI Stats), ability to work independently and ambition to pursue cutting-edge research with real impact. New York University is an exceptional research institution that is an emerging hub in machine learning, supported by the interaction with other nearby world-class institutions: Columbia University, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and IBM Watson; all in the heart of one of the most vibrant cities in the world. The Courant Institute has over 90 faculty and is one of the leading US institutions in the mathematical and computational sciences. It is located in Greenwich Village, one of the most attractive residential areas of Manhattan. We offer a competitive salary and an initial appointment of 12 months, starting between now and June 2013. Extension of the postdoctoral position for up to 3 years is possible. Please send your application to David Sontag <dson...@cs.nyu.edu>.
