University of Southern California (USC)
Information Sciences Institute (ISI)
Post-Doctoral Research Associate Position

We are seeking a post-doctoral research associate to support a large
research project in social media analytics. The project focuses on
developing technology for situational awareness of what is going on in
social media streams. As such, its research is broad, looking at network
structure, dynamics of the network structure and the content. The position
we are looking to fill focuses primarily on content analysis and
integrating it with network analysis. This is fundamental research and we
are looking for someone who is independent and has a strong interest in
analyzing content.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more areas related to
statistical approaches of machine learning, data mining and social network
analysis. Specifically, we are looking for someone with expertise and/or
interest in large-scale statistical text mining to research ways to better
understand how to detect, track and monitor social media aspects such as
topics, memes, and communities. We are particularly interested in how
these evolve and how to detect or predict interesting changes. A PhD in
computer science or related fields is required.

Salary and benefits are competitive and conform to USC postdoctoral rates.
The position is for one year with the possibility of extension for a
second year.

Further inquiries may be directed to Sofus Macskassy (sof...@isi.edu).
