Postdoctoral Position Available in Machine Learning

A postdoctoral position is open in David Sontag’s lab in the Computer
Science department at New York University, part of the Courant
Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Prof. Sontag’s lab studies both
theoretical and practical aspects of machine learning. A major focus
of their theoretical work is on algorithms for probabilistic inference
and learning in graphical models. They are also extending the
state-of-the-art in the application of artificial intelligence to
medicine. For example, in a project in collaboration with Harvard
Medical School, they are developing algorithms for the Emergency
Department that analyze a patient's data in real-time in order to
detect patients that are likely to develop a critical condition,
before it develops (e.g., septic shock).

A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or
related areas (e.g., Statistics), a strong publication record at top
machine learning conferences (NIPS, UAI, ICML, and AI Stats), ability
to work independently and ambition to pursue cutting-edge research
with real impact. Although previous experience in probabilistic
inference and learning in graphical models is preferred, it is not
required.

New York University is an exceptional research institution that is an
emerging hub in machine learning, supported by the interaction with
other nearby world-class institutions: Columbia University, Google
Research, Yahoo Research and IBM Watson; all in the heart of one of
the most vibrant cities in the world.

We offer a competitive salary and an initial appointment of 12 months,
starting between July and September, 2012. Extension of the
postdoctoral position for up to 3 years is possible.

Please send your application to dson...@cs.nyu.edu. Please make sure to include:
- Statement of interest
- Curriculum vitae
- List of publications (attach a copy of 2 or 3 of your strongest papers)
- Contact details for 2 to 3 references

Find me at NIPS! (December 12-17, Granada)

New York University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
