Special session on the Dempster-Shafer theory of belief functions at the 

5th International Conference on Soft Methods in Probability and Statistics 
(SMPS 2010) September 28 - October 1, 2010 Oviedo and Mieres (Asturias), Spain

If you intend to submit a paper to this special session, please send an email 
to Thierry Denoeux (tdeno...@hds.utc.fr) with the tentative title of your paper.

The scope of the SMPS is to bring together experts working on and with Soft 
Methods in Probability and Statistics - papers concerning each of the following 
topics are highly welcome: 
Analysis of Censored Data, Robust Methods, Analysis of Fuzzy Data, Clustering 
and Classification, Random Sets, Graphical Models, Fuzzy Random Variables, 
Machine Learning, Fuzzy Regression Methods, Heuristic Optimization, Triangular 
Norms and Copulas, Soft Computing and Statistics, Imprecise Probabilities, 
Statistical Software for Imprecise Data, Dempster-Shafer Theory, Applications 
in Biology, Economics etc. 

Plenaries: 
Peter Filzmoser - Soft Methods in Robust Statistics Manfred Gilli - An 
Introduction to Heuristic Optimization Methods Mario Guarracino - Supervised 
classification of biological data Enrique Héctor Ruspini - Ideas and Issues in 
Conceptual Fuzzy Clustering  

The platform for paper submission and registration will be open from February 
1, 2010. Full papers of 5-8 pages written in English and fulfilling the 
instructions for authors (see Call For Papers menu in the web page) should be 
submitted no later than March 1, 2010 (tentative), camera-ready versions of the 
accepted papers no later than May 16, 2010 (tentative). For accepted 
contributions to be included in the sessions and proceedings of the conference, 
the payment of the conference fees should be made before the camera-ready 
deadline (May 16, 2010, tentative). 

The conference proceedings will be published as an edited volume of the series 
Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing (Springer-Verlag) - up to now both 
the whole book and the individual papers are recognized by the ISI web of 
science. 

Deadlines: 
Registration and submission of papers: March 15, 2010 
Reviews Due: April 25, 2010 
Notification of acceptance: April 30, 2010 
Early Registration: May 7, 2010 
Submission of camera-ready versions of the papers: May 16, 2010 (tentative) 

Conference fees: 
Early registration (no later than May 7, 2010): 250 Euro Late registration 
(after May 7, 2010): 350 Euro Student registration: 170 Euro 

The Conference fees include a copy of the SMPS'2010 Springer-Verlag book, 
attendance to the seminars, coffee breaks, conference dinner and lunches.
