Research position in uncertain reasoning Department of Psychology at the University of Salzburg, Austria.
We are hiring a full time 3-year postdoc (or PhD student) in a project on uncertain reasoning. The title of the project is "Modeling human inference within the framework of probability logic" (project leader Gernot D. Kleiter). It is part of a larger project called "The logic of causal and probabilistic reasoning in uncertain envirionments" with collaborators from Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK. The project belongs to the ESF EuroCores programme LogICCC. LogICCC unites ten interdisciplinary related European projects. Requirements: (1) Experience in experimental psychology and a solid background in one or more of the following areas: logic, probability, Bayesian networks, theory of games. (2) Excellent knowledge of English. (3) Highly welcome: C++ or Java. Duties: Designing and running psychological experiments on reasoning, writing up according research papers for publication. Theoretical work connecting psychological models and models of uncertain reasoning in AI (including, e.g., conditional independence models, description logic, causal models, or counterfactuals). Organizational work related to the interaction of the members of the EuroCores research group (workshops, internet).
