Yes I think it is interesting. Both Mike and I have done a SPI EEPROM implementation which is file-backed, whereas this has CONFIG-defined data. With this sort of thing it probably needs a 'user' who wants it for a particular purpose and implements it to fit their needs, rather than us bringing in things for their own sake.
