If you want, you can ask for a name change in the Machine Registry. On the other hand, I see no inherent issues when the board config name 0n U-Boot (and Linux?) don't match the MACH_ID's name. But I forgot one thing: it seems also a good idear that the board config names in U-Boot and Linux match.
