I have cherry picked this change from the above git repo. There was some cleanup. The omap24xx version changes were done. The structure elements were changed from unsigned int to unsigned shorts + pads to make the elements consistent with the writew/readw 's used in the driver. The cmd_i2c changes that did not seem to fit were removed. I have run tested this on beagle and zoom1. Since I don't have a zippy board handy I did not get anything meaningfull when switching to i2c dev 2. The default i2c dev worked as expected.
