I'm afraid I don't really understand what this script is intended for.

To "edit" the U-Boot invironment we usually use the fw_printenv /
fw_setenv tools from the tools/env/ directory.

These know how do deal with plain and with redundant environment,
stored in NOR and in NAND flash, etc.

It seems the perl script does none of this?

If you want it included, please add some documentation, and submit it
as a proper patch. Please see http://www.denx.de/wiki/U-Boot/Patches
