"The fastest pulse" = the time that one bit encompasses. The following picture shows sending the character 'U' (0x01010101):

To me it seems fine, with a trailing stop bit as well. I have not altered the 8N1 configuration in the config files for the board. The only change is the use of USART3 instead of USART0.
