Nope. These are actually intentional. Good type setting systems add wider horizontal space after a full stop than between words. The double space after a full stop is the ASSCII representation of this. It may be a matter of taste, and since many editors don't support this (at least not out of the box), so it is not a required style element, but in any case there is no reason to remove this.
