I don't know what version of u-boot that is, but in the mainline u-boot, it sounds like you'll have to add a phy_info_smsclan8700 entry to drivers/net/tsec.c. fyi, drivers/qe/uec_phy.c looks like it already has an old-style phy_info entry for the lan8700. naturally, patches for mainline u-boot are welcome.
