The handling was changed a little bit in Typo3 8.
Now you have somthing like groups (default, small, medium ect.) and every group have his own ratios.
I tried the same already in the page config:
TCEFORM.sys_file_reference.crop.config.ratios {
NaN = Frei
1 = 1:1
1\.3333333333 = 4:3
1\.5 = 3:2
1\.7777777777777777= 16:9
}
But also your snippet dosent work in my debug Extension.
