The Department of Computing at the University of Turku, Finland has a broad
call for five (5) PhD positions in Software Engineering — which includes
Programming Languages. We are, for example, looking for PhD students to work on
the theory and practice of user interface programming; our current work
involves topics such as data-flow constraint systems, DSLs, and containers
(type theory) — and JavaScript. The positions are not restricted to these
themes — there is considerable freedom in the choice of a PhD research topic.

Potential advisors include:

 .

The positions are funded by Finland’s recent major investment in doctoral
training, altogether 1000 PhD positions, of which 50 in Software Engineering,
in several universities. In this initiative, extra emphasis is placed on the
support framework around doctoral studies so that doctoral researchers can
obtain their degree in the expected timeframe of three years.
