Yes, that is definitely a problem. Another alternative would be to ask the user (sender) for his e-mail address and credentials (if necessary), and use *his* ISP's SMTP server for the transaction. That way, the SMTP server is still dynamically determined according to the user. Or perhaps set up a centralized SMTP server on your network, and set up a proper PTR DNS record (for reverse DNS lookup), and have all your clients use that -- but I understand that this may not be feasible.
