I think that’s right that she is not starting a campaign to privatize the Oscars, just making a passing comment. I’m not sure though that the Oscar’s ceremony qualifies as a private event by its very nature. As you say, don’t go if you don’t like it (perhaps sacrificing some points on your contract so not required to).
