To answer what I think is M-D's specific question: DirecTV receives the same signals as every other provider, mostly via satellite, so Disney hasn't literally cut anything off on their end. (DirecTV's main reception facility is on Culver Boulevard in Los Angeles - I sometimes have occasion to drive by there and catch a glimpse of the numerous satellite dishes in back of the building. I believe they have a backup facility in Colorado that can take over the entire operation if necessary. They also have a smaller facility in each individual market that only receives local stations.)
DirecTV likely receives the local KABC signal via a fiber link (rather than using an OTA antenna), but it's probably part of a larger interconnect that's also serving the various Spectrum headends in the area along with other providers, so that wouldn't be cut off, either. It's to the benefit of both sides that they be able to reactivate the channels ASAP after a new deal is signed. > On Sep 3, 2024, at 2:12 PM, 'Bob Jersey' via TVorNotTV > <[email protected]> wrote: > > The Disney brass' statement seeks to avoid "undervaluing" their content... > what that usually means is that the content provider expects to be paid > something more than they've been getting, though how much more is obviously > the subject of negotiation.
