Bourdain’s death is tragic on so many levels. For me, personally, he seemed like he’d be a cool guy to hang out with. No BS. The anti-Fieri. There’s a clip available on YouTube by Donz of all his Letterman appearances and right out of the gate he’s a great guest. Good anecdotes and good comebacks.

Bourdain represented embracing other cultures. Often that involved massive consumption of alcohol, but when in Rome. . . So maybe eating Filipino balut is not for everyone (Google it), but he showed there was much foreign cultures had that could be enjoyed by Americans. Bourdain was openly political and was a force against the cancer running through our culture now. As this CBS News story noted, he was a strong advocate for immigrant kitchen workers.
