I finally got around to finding the original album on Spotify. For some reason it's a playlist. It simply doesn't compare to the Legend/NBC version. NBC had top Broadway performing talent in all the roles while the album was Warner Brothers talent. The backing music for the album was probably a rock band while NBC used a much larger and deeper lineup. Ian Gillan, who I consider one of the top rock voices of that era, sang the part of Jesus and he put none of the emotion into his performance that John Legend did.
I don't know if the album came out before or after Webber and Rice staged the show. The album feels like a demo they would use to sell it to producers and build anticipation in the public. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TVorNotTV" group.
