All good points. I’ve tried and failed a couple times to discuss all of
this on social media. Ultimately all I can contribute (without getting my
ass handed to me by women) is my own experience in the industry in the
1990s, where sexual harassment was even more common. I could also attempt
to draw a correlation between the open drug use of the era, not as any form
of defense or explanation, but just to add some detail to those times. It
was the tail end (no puns or innuendo intended) of the “anything goes” era.
And while obviously the behavior continued beyond my time in the studios, I
suspect the days when one finds a mountain of coccaine in the break room
are done, as are the days when a Hollywood producer would grab a female
employee and pull her onto his lap, forcing her to give him a lap dance in
full view of the entire crew.

Whomever would be in office now, the credit for changing the permissive
culture goes to social media. Apologies to the gasbag Jon Ronson, but
public shaming is proving very effective.
