I just heard Eric Deggans on NPR say that ABC has picked up the show. He
noted that if Seacrest were hired, he would be the only link to the old
show. He also said that it was estimated that Seacrest got $15 million for
the last season. He affirmed what I said: if people tune into Idol and see
the exact show they gave up on, there is no way it could succeed.

He thinks the reason ABC picked it up is that it is a known brand. He
compared it to the Match Game as an unscripted reboot that has had success.
