"MTM" was at 9:30 before "Mannix"--the rest of the night before Mary was "Mission: Impossible," "My Three Sons" and the new Herschel Bernardi sitcom "Arnie." On NBC against Mare was "Saturday Night at the Movies" (before the movie was Andy Williams in the Chris Bearde/Allan Blye incarnation with Prof. Irwin Corey and the Cookie Bear and "Adam-12"). ABC started the season with a flop drama series called "The Most Deadly Game" at 9:30. Mid-season, the time was given back to the affiliates. "Let's Make a Deal" and "The Newlywed Game" started the night, followed by Lawrence Welk. The game shows moved to Monday night in mid-season before getting their prime time walking papers in the fall (with "Deal" continuing in first-run syndication for six more years), the Champagne Music Makers moving up an hour before getting their rural purge cancellation (and then running in first-run syndication for over a decade) and a Pearl Bailey-fronted variety show crashed and burned at 8:30.
