That's not correct.

The position that Candice Bergen (not that one) holds is "House Leader",
which is not the leader of the party itself, but rather the person who
helps manage parliamentary business for their party (think the "Leader in
the House" rather than the Leader of the party).

The leader of the official opposition is a woman named Rona Ambrose (who is
more qualified than most, if not all, of the yahoos running for the
permanent job, but I digress).

I'm not sure of a direct analog to something in the US Congress, although
the agenda management that the majority and minority leaders do in the
Senate is the closest. That said, those leaders are public faces of their
respective parties much more than a House Leader is in the parliamentary
context.
