"Any Given Wednesday," the misguided attempt to make Bill Simmons the Bill
Maher of sports, will have its last episode next Wednesday--Bill Simmons
Media Group and its Ringer web site will continue to develop projects for
HBO:

Meanwhile, I haven't heard much about "Vice News Tonight," HBO's 7:30
newscast from Vice Media, which I assume will appeal to the millennials
while grandma watches "Wheel of Fortune." I watched an episode last week
and find out a decent newsmagazine, but it's very light on breaking news.
I will given them points for trying to do stories the network newscasts
don't do and generally, despite the use of background music and flashy
graphics, being essentially more serious than the commercial dinner hour
newscasts. Supposedly, HBO's given it a three-year commitment and I hope
they can do well with it.
