Definitely agree about the local guys. But i am not sure that all national
commentators have a relatively short expiration date. I actually still
think Simms is one of the better analysts working NFL, and I have
appreciated Collingsworth more as time has gone by. McCarver was more than
fine when he started, he was very good. I dont think he got horrible just
because he got stale; i think he got lazy and arrogant (and in the last
years, I think actually a little  cognitively impaired). I think it is
possible, if you are committed to doing a good job, to get better at being
a commentator, and not just rest on old stories.
