NFL ratings are definitely down across the board this season - Sunday day games as well as the primetime games:

IF QBs are the issue, more likely Brady and Peyton (their absence), than the second stringer from the 49ers. I suspect we are starting to see the cumulative impact of three trends: Over-exposure (good time for my first annual mention of how horrible Thursday Night Football is), the necessary changes to minimize head injuries, and the habit of younger fans to not sit in front of the tv for hours watching a game (or even streaming it from a device), and instead monitoring scores and watching highlights. Still, the NFL is one of the very best television commodities, and is likely to remain so. As the season progresses we may see an uptick, with more stars emerging.
