"For the Record," a series of cabaret tributes to contemporary film directors including songs from the films and scene re-enactments that began in LA and has been done in many other cities, will come to television in the near future on ABC as a live special produced by dick clark productions:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/abc-bringing-record-live-tv-901007 I saw their "Baz" show (as in Luhrmann-as in "Moulin Rouge!" and the most recent "Great Gatsby") in Las Vegas last year and it was very entertaining. Whether or not it will translate to television is still up in the air. Besides the professionally-shot trailers in the link, there are lots of camcorder videos on YouTube of numbers from the shows (searching "for the record rockwell" or "ftr" should give them to you), with some songs given repeated videos because of frequent cast changes. (They also had the problem of initially not clearing the material from the films, for which they claimed fair use parody, but television will take care of that.) It'll also take care of some complaints that Equity actors were getting underpaid (for which the producers stated that the show was cabaret and not under Equity jurisdiction), but everyone on the show will have to be or join AFTRA-SAG. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
