Seriously, I think you misunderstood that (badly-written) sentence in the article, which referred to the characters getting separated this season. Another one of those implausible, endless plot complications that drove me to give up the show years ago - like the investigation into the death of Beckett's mother. (Ever notice that new clues in that case only turned up during ratings sweeps periods?)
