Aside from the novelty, why? If you execute your live program perfectly, you get what you would (should) have gotten by filming. It's not "live" the way seeing it in a theater is; it's still images on a screen, and there's a decent chance that the viewer will record it and watch at a time of her own choosing anyway. It may be a great technical challenge for the cast and crew, but that doesn't matter to the person on the couch. Whatever value the immediacy may provide to a scripted show, it's more than offset by both the limitations of what can be done technically, and what's lost to mistakes that could easily be fixed with a second take. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
