His care team is trying to determine the right course to take, to bring him back to 'normal' from the sedation and other stuff that's been piped into him; it's still too early to determine what the next step will be.
I'm inclined to make television-ish cracks here, such as that he's CBS (critical-but-stable), or that his puzzling condition may be a job for *House*.
