Or alternatively, The Carmichaels, since NBC seems to be using both names
during the airing of the show Wednesdays at 9. I decided to try the show
after hearing Marc Maron interview Jerrod Carmichael on WTF. Carmichael is
young and vey intelligent and it sounds like he has a chance at a good
career in TV.

Carmichael said that they taped six episodes of the series and NBC is
airing them two at a time with the last two coming this Wednesday - I
assume that they are also available on nbc.com.

The show has a structure that recalls All in the Family and Everybody Loves
Raymond. David Alan Grier plays the Carroll O'Connor/Peter Boyle role and
Loretta Devine plays the Doris Roberts role. Jerrod Carmichael plays Jerrod
and the main problem of the show is that he can't center it. He ends up
playing straight man to all the wacky people around him. His comedic
talents may be in the writing but not his performance.

My main criticism of the show is that there is no way to identify with the
characters or care what happens to them. I found that as plot complications
develop I don't care if the characters get what they want or what the
consequences are and as a result I gave up on watching it early in the
fourth episode.
