I just watched this. I got the same feeling that I got from listening to early Marc Maron podcasts, that the host is struggling to make a coherent hour. Conan's geared to the 7 or 8 minute interview based on segment producer's notes and this long interview wandered a lot. As happened with Maron, Conan should get it together over time. Conan did not structure a line of questioning and questions did not lead to other questions in order to deepen a point. His questions drifted from Teddy Roosevelt to Reagan (Morris's biography subjects) and back again. In the second half of the show things picked up a bit and Morris gave some insight on the effect that losing elections has on one-term presidents and how friends can become very hostile toward each other if they become political rivals, with TR and Taft being the example. If Conan keeps this up and learns from his experience this could become a good and worthwhile show to follow. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
