Just some other numbers to consider here. I finally watched the Johnny Carson PBS special online. They kept talking about how Johnny Carson had 15 million viewers a night. That's four times what Leno is delivering. Carson's salary in the late 1970s was $5 million a year. I used the Bureau of Labor Statistics' inflation calculator and it shows $5 million a year in 1979 is about $15.8 million now, roughly equaling Leno's new salary. But Leno has a quarter of he viewers that Carson had. Sounds like Johnny was a bargain. . .
