Because they're on AM? A lot of AM talk stations are simulcasting on FM
now. That's where the younger demographics are. News radio historically
trends old and so Merlin thought there could be more favorable demographics
to be viable, despite startup costs and lower ratings. The other issue with
the Merlin stations is that it sounded like news radio on the cheap. The
CBS stations have a huge list of affiliated and national reporters they can
question. Merlin sounded more rip and read.

I'm thrilled too with the return of the music to WRXP.  New York music
radio is awful, they're pretty decent.

What I don't understand is why they thought all news on FM would work in a
market where there are two AM all news stations (WCBS-AM, WINS-AM) that
have historically dominated the market.
