I think your module could be complemented with the free/OSS data from icecatpim (http://icecat.fr/menu/channel_pim/index.htm), that can give you standard UNSPSC product categories (http://www.unspsc.org/), and a complete set of features for each product category. Even the translations are provided for the product categories and the feature sets. However, it is a little pain to set up the OSS icecatpim, but if you feel that this could be a good idea, we've done it and we can set it up for you, so you can query the MySQL database to extract the needed data (if method prefered, if not the XML formatted data is available on http://icecatpim.sourceforge.net/).
