Dear Norman,

The recycled folder is a normal folder on the IMAP server.
Yes, you can have such a folder, but the concept of deleting in a pure IMAP client like Trojita does not involve moving mails to that folder, it consists of adding the \Deleted flag to a message (this cation can be undone) and then, at the appropriate moment for you, expunging that message (removing it completely).
Moving messages into a folder called Trash (or whatever) is different from deleting. Some mail clients have functionality for this kind of thing, calling it filtering, often allowing one to associate a shortcut to a use-defined filter. Trojita does not have this functionality.
The idea of using an attachment for the original message in a reply seems so obvious, I'm amazed you haven't heard of it before.
It is unnecessary, because we have threaded views (in Trojita: View > Show messages in threads). For finer-grainer referencing in replies, there is the option to use quotes (top-posting). (BTW: the fact that you bottom-post is making following the argument much more difficult; please consider doing the effort of top-posting as a courtesy to the readers of this list.)
[...] attaching the body means that I'd have to drill down through attachments to get to the beginning of a conversation. I don't view this as a huge problem, as it is just there for reference and I seldom feel the need to get back to the beginning of the conversation. The problem could be mitigated by providing an "unroll" function that does the drilling for me upon request. The alternative would be to treat this attachment specially, simply extending it on every turn in the dialog.
What you describe is similar in spirit to, and much better handled using threaded views.
Best, Erik
