Its good question. When I'm composing new email and every 30s I see
cursor change it is 1) annoying and hard to write + think about new

One could constrain the cusorshape to the mainwindow, leaving the others alone (since from the users POV the mainwindow is busy, not the editors)
This would likely require an internal "override" stack for the mainwindow.

There btw. *is* an error: updating your mailbox takes *ages*.
You're just blaming the messenger :-P

Maybe move it just to status bar area? Or disable totally any events
when checking count of unread messages in all folders?

Imo there're three reasonable options:
--------------------------------------
a) only (it's there anyway) use the progress in the statusbar/spinnerbutton in general (for non gui blocking tasks)

b) don't use a global override but only alter the shape on the main window

c) don't indicate any bg activity *at all*

Silencing is ok, but not indicating "some"™ ("whatever action annoys Pali today") activity is silly:
The user gets no consistent idea about Trojitá's status.
