3. In a shell, "export http_proxy=http://127.0.0.1:8080/";
That won't work. Your SSH client does not provide an HTTP proxy, but a
SOCKS5 proxy. Use `export http_proxy=socks5://127.0.0.1:8080` to set up the
variables properly.
However, another test showed that
this doesn't depend on the http_proxy environment variable -- it
depends only on the system-wide settings in Ubuntu's control panel.
It would be interesting to know how Ubuntu sets this up. Please file a bug
at the bug tracker.
