Hi Chris,

The only thing more I've found out is that the pauses are present under Firefox in Mac OS X (my previous tests were under Windows), however the pauses are not present under Safari.

Pauses are not present under IE on Windows, nor are pauses present with Firefox if Trac is accessed via HTTP rather than HTTPS.

With that information at hand, I've just stopped using Firefox to access my site, and as there are only a few of us doing so, I suggested the others use IE or Safari too.

Hope that helps.

Marc

Marc--

Did you ever find out anything else about these Trac vs. mod_python? I'm still not absolutely sure it's solved by going back to 3.1.3--I still get long pauses once in a while, but only because things are probably paged out (though we have plenty of memory).

Then again, running a Perl-based cgi (DSPAM web interface) *never* has long pauses, even after it hasn't been used for a while, so perhaps there's still some performance issues.

Hi Chris,

Are you running Trac under SSL?

I've done some more playing around and I'm now getting pauses with mod_python 3.1.3, although only under SSL and with Firefox.

Subject: Re: [Trac] mod_python 3.1.4/3.2.5b slow with Firefox

After trying to get Lighttpd to work for a few days I decided to forget about it for now and just use mod_python directly under Apache.  In doing so I found that mod_python 3.1.4 and 3.2.5b both had 5-10 second pauses in the response as viewed from a Firefox browser.  These same requests worked without the pause in IE, and there was no server load at the time.

After poking around the Trac site for a bit, I noticed it's served via mod_python 3.1.3 so I tried that version myself and found that the response pauses under Firefox went away.

Has anyone else experienced this?

A recent Trac installation using mod_python 3.1.4 has just the same "odd pausing" problem, at least under Safari/OS X 10.4.

Hmm, maybe I should try 3.1.3.

I wonder if there's no some authentication dance going on behind the scenes that's slowing things down.

Cheers!
